On April 29, 2014 the McIntyre Family Foundation awarded the first of its Prairie Healthcare Scholarships during an exciting launch in Swift Current. This first of two intakes for 2014 had an overwhelming response. In total, 549 applications were received with 59 successful applicants awarded their scholarships in August, ranging from $1,000 – $18,500. These successful candidates will now be following their dreams to enrol in a range of healthcare related studies from Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacology to Kinesiology at post-secondary institutions including the Universities of Saskatchewan, Regina, Manitoba, Alberta and Lethbridge, as well as Colleges such as Red Deer and Great Plains College.
Since the initial intake had such an overwhelming response the McIntyre Family Foundation, founded and headquartered in Southwest Saskatchewan has decided to refocus its efforts in that region. The McIntyre Family Foundation still hopes to expand applications in the future, once the Fund has grown to meet the larger needs of the prairie provinces.
The McIntyre Family Foundation is announcing the second and final intake for 2014, which is set for November 1 – 30. Going forward, the Prairie Healthcare Scholarship will accept applications once per year starting in the spring of 2015. The Prairie Healthcare Scholarships are available to students and professionals at all levels wishing to pursue their dreams in a variety of healthcare professions.
